By boat from USA to Genk, another step toward sustainable logistics

On March 20, 2025 Biesmans Group received its very first container through the new container terminal Port of Limburg in Genk. The container was transported (almost) entirely by water, directly from the United States to our distribution center in Genk. This milestone is tangible proof of our ambition to make our logistics chain more efficient and sustainable.
Sustainable transportation with strategic advantage
The Port of Limburg container terminal, located on the former Ford site in Genk, offers an environmentally friendly alternative to road transport. By putting maximum effort into water-bound transport, we not only reduce our ecological footprint, but also increase the reliability and flexibility of our supplies.
"By using the new container terminal, we are taking an important step to make our transports more efficient and environmentally friendly," says Filip Biesmans, director of Biesmans Group and chairman of the VIG (Verenigde Industriëlen Genk). "As chairman, I support the further development of the Port of Limburg, because a strong inland port is indispensable for the competitiveness of our region. This terminal not only helps to reduce traffic pressure on the roads, but also lowers transport costs for companies and contributes to a more sustainable economy in and around Genk."

International logistics, locally anchored
As a holding company with international suppliers and strong local anchoring, Biesmans Group consciously opts for logistics optimization with a sustainable impact. The container with EPDM was transported entirely by water from the United States to the heart of Limburg, barely one kilometer from our distribution center.
Within the group, RoofYou, our distribution arm, plays a key role as a hub for EPDM products in the Benelux, among others. This sustainable approach strengthens our position as a reliable partner for roofing and facade professionals.
Astep that will not go unnoticed
The arrival of the container did not go unnoticed outside the industry. Local media, including Het Belang van Limburg and TVL, paid attention to this initiative. This underlines the broader importance of this sustainable logistics choice - not only for Biesmans Group, but for the entire region.
