VUB Usquare Campus
The redevelopment of historic sites into multifunctional urban spaces is a trend that both preserves cultural heritage and meets modern needs. A striking example of this is the VUB Usquare campus in Brussels. This project, a transformation of an old military barracks, perfectly illustrates how past and future can merge harmoniously. Within this framework, Tectum Group made a fine contribution to the sustainability and aesthetic aspects of the campus through our expertise in roofing and green roofs.
The VUB Usquare campus, located in the heart of Brussels, represents a landmark redevelopment project in which a historic military barracks has been transformed into a vibrant university and urban center. This ambitious project combines educational, research and residential facilities with public and green spaces, adding a new dynamic to the city. As part of this transformation, Tectum Group carried out the waterproofing of several flat roofs. We also contributed to the project's sustainability goals by installing a total of 860 m² of green roof. Of this, 770 m² consists of extensive green roof, which contributes to biodiversity and water retention with its lightweight and low-maintenance vegetation. The remainder, a 90 m² semi-intensive green roof, creates an accessible green space that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also has a positive impact on the well-being of users and urban ecology.
